BitTorrent Certified

BitTorrent™ has created a certification program to help consumers find and purchase products that complement and enhance the BitTorrent ecosystem of applications and devices. Consumer electronics and computer hardware makers can partner with BitTorrent to ensure that their next-generation consumer devices deliver the best possible performance and user experience to the BitTorrent user community.

Why BitTorrent Certified?

BitTorrent is the consumer standard for delivering high-quality media over the Internet. However, it is also one of the most demanding protocols on the Internet. Consumers who run BitTorrent at home are often frustrated by the performance of their routers or confused by the setup process, leading to support headaches and lost customers.

Some products have also implemented the BitTorrent protocol in ways that are incomplete and buggy. As a result, consumers need a convenient way to identify advanced devices that fully support BitTorrent.

Key Benefits

  • Brand your products to reach the global BitTorrent audience
  • Assure your customers of solid BitTorrent performance
  • Lower your support costs by building for BitTorrent compatability
  • Best practices and support from BitTorrent experts

Market your products to the large and influential BitTorrent demographic

There are over 160 million BitTorrent users accounting for a reported 30-60 percent of global Internet traffic. This is an important community to reach. BitTorrent users are avid technology consumers who demand high-performance products that meet their needs. BitTorrent Device Partners can access the tools and expertise to create BitTorrent Certified products and tap into this dynamic community via the BitTorrent Certified logo on packaging and the web. Certified devices are also eligible for BitTorrent Entertainment Network content and PC client distribution opportunities.

Low-impact certification program

BitTorrent performs tests and provides automated self-test tools during the certification process. The goal is to ensure that approved products are optimized for the BitTorrent ecosystem right out of the box.

In the case of home-networking devices, many routers are already capable of good results, but require too much work to configure for performance and security. BitTorrent has created a set of best practices and standard networking settings that simplify set-up. We have also established a set of technical benchmarks and automated test tools to measure and assure solid performance.

Products that incorporate the BitTorrent SDK are tested for compatibility and performance with the broader personal computing and device ecosystem.
