How do end-users get visibility into when DNA is downloading/uploading? Does the DNA client have a UI?

DNA is carefully designed to be completely unobtrusive—it is a content delivery technology, not a user experience in itself. The user experience is entirely managed by you the content publisher, and DNA does everything possible to disappear into the background.  The integration method you choose will determine how the download is exposed to end-users.  For example, DNA is used to stream videos to a flash player, end-users will get visibility into the download by way of the video playing.  If you use the DNA Downloader to deliver large files, end-users will get visibility into the download by a progress screen.

Additionally, DNA is optionally manageable by end-users from a utility within the Windows Control Panel.  The control panel provides end-users with information about DNA including:

  • the Download and Upload speeds for active DNA content (with ability to pause)
  • a list of Content (and name of publisher) in the DNA cache (with ability to delete content)
  • a DNA tray icon - enabling the icon will cause it to appear in the system tray whenever DNA is being used to download/upload
