Chief Executive Officer
Eric Klinker is the Chief Executive Officer of BitTorrent, Inc. bringing close to two decades worth of networking experience as a technologist and innovator. Eric joins BitTorrent from his previous post as CTO and Vice President of Engineering at Internap, a leading provider of network optimization and content delivery solutions. Previously, Eric worked at netVmg, Excite@Home and the Naval Research Laboratory. Eric holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a master’s degree in EE from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Chief Scientist and Founder
Bram Cohen is the Chief Scientist and Founder of BitTorrent, Inc. and the creator of the BitTorrent file distribution protocol, which he grew to be a third of all Internet traffic before taking any funding. He is currently working on BitTorrent Live, a new protocol to enable limitless scaling of live video content on the Internet. Before founding BitTorrent, Bram worked at a series of start-ups through the dot-com boom doing web development and networking protocols in the early days of the Internet. Chief Content Officer
Matt joined BitTorrent in November of 2011 with a lofty mission: reintroduce BitTorrent to the world while reclaiming the brand. Since that time, Matt has established a center of excellence within the company, bringing in top talent for product marketing, brand, creative, and communications. All the while being an inspirational leader and voice for the company, most recently as Vice President of Marketing. In his new role, Matt will continue to work with the content industry, an effort that to date has motivated over 10,000 content creators and rights holders to sign up to work with BitTorrent. Recent partnerships have included De La Soul, and the Oscar nominated documentary The Act of Killing.
Chief Financial Officer
Dipak joined BitTorrent from Milestone Internet, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. Dipak is a seasoned executive with International experience at Siemens, eBay,Google and Fuzebox. Dipak helped to scale and setup the finance and accounting organization for eBay in Bern, Switzerland and moved to the U.S. as Director of Acquisitions at eBay. Dipak spent four years at Google as Financial Controller. In his new role, Dipak will lead all Finance, Accounting, Tax and Investor Relations activities for BitTorrent. Dipak is an avid soccer and a Chelsea fan.
Senior Vice President of Product, User Experience, and Data Science
Simon Morris is the Senior Vice President of Product, User Experience, and Data Science at BitTorrent, Inc. Before joining BitTorrent, Simon was the Director of Product Management for Openwave System’s Client Business, where he led all strategy, planning and execution for a $100 million-a-year global business unit. Prior to that, Simon led channel and product marketing for the worldwide PKI Affiliate business at VeriSign, a leading Internet infrastructure services provider, and was a founder of Mercantil, Inc., a successful venture-backed online business based in South America. Simon holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cambridge University and earned his MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Vice President of Engineering
Ilan Shamir is VP of Engineering at BitTorrent, Inc., bringing over 20 years of experience as a seasoned executive, manager and architect. Prior to joining BitTorrent’s world-class team of engineers, Ilan was the General Manager of Endpoint Products at Check Point Software Technologies, responsible for leading a distributed organization of 120 employees and the direction of products for both the consumer and enterprise businesses. Before Check Point, Ilan has held key leadership positions at Decru (now NetApp), ePit Systems, and Senterprise Inc. Most notably, Ilan was the CEO, CTO and Founder of SideTalk Inc. where he grew the company to 30 employees and later sold it to a public company. Ilan has also served as a visiting scientist at the MIT Media Lab focused on peer-to-peer software research. Ilan earned bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science from The Hebrew University (Jerusalem, Israel).
Vice President of Product Management for BitTorrent Sync
Erik Pounds is Vice President of Product Management for BitTorrent Sync. He is responsible for the strategy and development of a product with a distinct advantage in the sync and share category: no cloud required. With more than 15 years of experience in storage and networking, Erik joined BitTorrent, Inc. from Greylock Partners, where he was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Prior to that, Erik spent 3 years with Drobo, where he was responsible for setting the direction for their portfolio of award-winning storage products; including product lifecycle, roadmaps, and technical product marketing. Before Drobo, Erik served at leading storage and networking leaders like Brocade, Adaptec, and EMC. Erik graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco where for four years he was a member of their Division I Golf Team.
Vice President of Product
Jordy Berson is VP of product, user experience and data science with responsibility for revenue and user growth for the company's largest product line (170 million users worldwide), and new consumer-facing products BitTorrent Bundles and Maelstrom. Before joining BitTorrent, Jordy directed product management for Check Point Software's consumer line of Internet security products with 70 million users worldwide. Prior to that, he spent four years at Zone Labs, a consumer-facing Internet security start-up where he product-managed the world's #1 free firewall (65M users) and the introduction and growth of the company's award winning premium product offerings, utilizing one of the Web's first free-to-paid conversion models.
Vice President of Global Communications and Brand
Christian heads efforts to educate and drive awareness for BitTorrent technology and the company mission, while overseeing the introduction of new products based on BitTorrent, Inc's core values of distributed technology, user control, and an open internet. Since joining BitTorrent in November 2012, Christian has been integral to efforts to the growth of the business, improvement of brand reputation, and introduction of new product lines. Christian joined BitTorrent after six years with the Fleishman Hillard family where he was based in the New York and San Francisco offices. Prior to FH, Averill started Text 100’s global consumer practice in 2004.
Vice President of Revenue
Sam Hariri is Vice President of Revenue at BitTorrent, Inc. He is responsible for business development, strategic partnerships and business alignment with BitTorrent's product organization. Before joining BitTorrent, Sam led international corporate and business development initiatives at SolFocus, a venture backed solar technology startup, consulted across a variety of industries and traded electricity at one of the largest utilities in the country. Sam holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
